4 of the Best Fall Travel Destinations

Right now, with the kids being back in school and grown ups working in the daily grind, it’s the perfect time for a quick little fall getaway. Prices are lower, the crowds are smaller, and the temperatures will make most venues much more bearable. While there are many fantastic fall travel destinations, I’m going to give you my top 5 and list the reasons why they made my list.

  • Appalachian Mountains (specifically North Georgia and Eastern Tennessee) – Now, I may be a little biased, based on the fact that I live in the Appalachian Mountain region, but in the fall, there is nothing more beautiful than driving through the mountains when the leaves are painted in their bold, vibrant colors. Every year, we have many, many visitors to our area who are called “Leaf Lookers.” They really do just come here to drive around and look at the leaves. Rarely are they disappointed. It’s the perfect time to rent a car from Enterprise and drive for days.

  • Savannah, Georgia – I know, I know. It’s another Georgia destination. But, really, if everyone knew how beautiful Georgia was in the fall, everyone would move here. 😉 Savannah has been top on my fall destination list since I was a little girl. Historic B&Bs, amazing architecture, comfort food unlike anything you’ve ever tasted, music festivals, craft shows, and more, you will not be bored. And if you’re into Halloween, Savannah boasts some of the most amazing ghost hunting venues you’ll want to check out.

  • Charleston, South Carolina – My husband and I are both history buffs, and Charleston, South Carolina is one of our favorite destinations. Cobblestone walkways, mansions that are centuries old, Spanish moss-draped trees, gas lamp-lit streets, spooky cemeteries, and horse-drawn carriages all make you fell you’ve stepped back in time. There’s something for everyone, and you definitely won’t be bored. (Not a history buff? That’s OK too. Just because there’s so much history in Charleston doesn’t mean it’s boring. You’ll also find innovative restaurants, contemporary art galleries, and shops that cater to every taste.)
  • Chicago – As a former Chicago resident, this will forever be one of my favorite cities to visit, but especially in the fall. This is the best time to visit because it can be done so cheaply! Flights are less expensive and there are rooms available all over the city at an affordable rate. (Just remember, the annual Chicago Marathon is held in October, so either join in – but register early! – or avoid the city during that time. It can get a little chaotic.) Chicago is home to some of the most amazing museums, galleries, and restaurants, and even though I haven’t lived there in years, I still call it “home.” Once you visit, you’ll leave a little piece of your heart there because you’ll fall in love with it.
