With one month left of summer, families are preparing their children to go back to school. In addition to buying school supplies, backpacks, getting a haircut, and maybe a new pair of shoes, kids will also be getting excited for some back to school shopping. Every year, the styles are changing, and what you see on the clothing racks at the store might be very different from last year. So, if you need a little help figuring out how to dress your kid for the first day of school, check out a few of these outfit tips.
1. A Fun Flowy Dress
If your girl loves to wear dresses, then she’s probably going to want to wear one on the first day of school, too. The Children’s Place has a lot of great dresses on sale that will brighten up your child’s day (and classroom!). Keep it fun by getting one of the Tutu Dresses, so she can twirl around whenever she goes to sharpen her pencil. Add a long necklace, some flip flops, and a bow in the hair to make it pop!
2. The Old School T-Shirt, Jeans, and Chucks
Why stress over finding a million different outfit combinations? Just stick with an easy t-shirt-and-jeans combo. Not only will your kid be comfortable on the first day, it won’t be a big deal if his or her clothes get a bit dirty on the playground. If you’re looking for cool t-shirt ideas, then take a look at the options from Teepublic. Add a pair of black Converses to complete the look.
3. The Sporty Look
The sporty look is a cool way to go for kids who are more active. Both boys and girls will look great in a pair of shorts and a tank from NIKEiD. You can match the clothes up with a pair of sneakers and a backpack, and even a hoodie in case it’s cold the first day. Nike has different styles and colors depending on what kind of sport your kid likes.
4. Dapper and Elegant
So, your child’s school doesn’t require uniforms, but you want them looking fancy-schmancy on the first day anyway. Shop at Janie and Jack, which has great discounts. These preppy looks aren’t for everyone, but we can guarantee your child will be the most adorable thing on this side of the schoolyard. For a boy, try an Oxford or polo shirt with khakis and boat shoes. (Make sure to part his hair, and add a bowtie for good luck.) For a girl, try the Chiffon Dress or the Bouclé Jacket with Bouclé Shorts. Add some string pearls and patent leather shoes as accessories.
5. The “All-American” Outfit
What really defines an outfit as “All-American?” We’re not sure exactly, but probably anything from Old Navy Canada is a safe bet. Not only are the clothes super cheap here, but they come in colors and designs that fit every little-person’s personality. For girls, leggings with a tee and a pair of Keds. For boys, a button down with cargo shorts, and high-top shoes. Of course, the flag shirts are a good choice, too!
Back to school shopping should be time for family bonding. Don’t worry about what your child should wear the first day of school. Have fun with it and have them try on one of these outfits!
