6 Ways to Protect Your Skin from Sun Damage

Sunburn can be painful. It is no fun to be itching, peeling, and unable to allow anything to even touch your skin wherever the redness hits. But the sun can do so much more damage than just sunburn.   • Beware of Reflected Light – An umbrella or even shade trees can’t protect you from the sun’s rays that are reflected off of sand, snow, and many other surfaces. Water doesn’t reflect ultraviolet light, but it can easily penetrate the water, so you’re not protected by being in the water.
  • Check Your Medicine Cabinet – Some prescription drugs and even herbal medicines can make your skin extra sensitive to sun exposure and can increase your risk of sunburn. Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist about any medications you may be taking.
  • Avoid Sunbathing and Tanning Beds – There’s no such thing as a healthy tan. It’s more likely your skin will burn instead of tan, especially if you are fair skinned.
