Essential Gear for Your Next Mountain Adventure

A trip to the mountains might be just the thing to help you de-stress this summer. So many vacationers look to the serenity of coastal cities, but overlook the gorgeous mountains as a summer vacation option. There are many perks to taking a trip to the mountains during the summertime. The mountains are much more secluded, and private, whereas other cities and coastal regions tend to be flooded with tourists. If you’re longing for quiet and looking for a place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of nature, book a trip to a mountain town and watch your stress melt away.

As with any vacation, you’ll want to make sure that you have all of the needed essentials for a trip such as this. Plan to pack lightly to save space and to help with your gas mileage. Consider your accommodations. Will you be vacationing in a private home or cabin? Perhaps you’ve booked a hotel stay or plan to camp?  Private homes and cabins are really the way to go when it comes to lodging. You’ll have your own private space, and you’ll truly be able to enjoy the peace and quiet.

If you’re staying in a cabin or private home, you’ll want to have plenty of food items with you for the duration of your trip. You can order grocery items before you leave for your trip from Amazon. You might even want to do some light meal planning and plan to bring along a crock pot or pressure cooker. You can snag up to 25% off a Power Pressure Cooker XL on Amazon. Plan to make simple meals just like the ones that you would make at home, but perhaps on a smaller scale. If you’re cooking for large groups of people, slow cookers can really come in handy. You could roast a pork butt all day, and have several pounds of shredded BBQ pork for dinner. Clean up is easy when you have only dirtied one pot or pan. Making large batches of food can also be great for leftovers, which can be eaten for other meals.

If you plan to take advantage of the various nature trails or hiking trails while on your mountain getaway, be sure to have the proper clothing and footwear needed for a day of hiking. Trails can be dangerous if you don’t have the proper gear, and it’s easy to slip and fall over rocks or roots if you’re not wearing proper hiking boots or trail shoes. Stick with brands that are made for the rugged outdoors, like Merrells. You can find great deals on all sorts of outdoor gear at Sierra Trading Post. Be sure to browse their clearance section for awesome sales, and don’t miss their offer for free shipping on 3 orders of $50.00+. While you’re getting proper trail shoes, make sure to also purchase any clothing you might need for a day on the trails. Lightweight layers are best, as they can be taken off or added if you become too hot or cold during the day.

It’s so nice to be able to pack a picnic and enjoy it while soaking in the beautiful views offered by the mountains. Grab a basket and fill it with paper plates, plastic cutlery, some cups or water bottles, napkins, and wet wipes to wash your hands with. You can pack a nice loaf of French bread, some deli meats, cheese, fresh fruit, and maybe even a dessert to enjoy. Don’t forget to bring along a blanket so you’ll have a soft and dry area to sit on, in case picnic tables are not available.

As when spending any time outdoors, you’ll need to bring along sunscreen and bug spray. Protect your eyes with sunglasses, and bring along a hat, just in case the sun beats down a bit too much on your head. Camping chairs can come in handy if you want to sit by the campfire, or just sit and enjoy an overlook along a parkway or mountain road.

You won’t need too much on your mountain trip, but having the right items with you will make for a much easier vacation. Don’t forget about the mountains when you start planning your next vacation!
