We just finished the first week of the new school year and I already feel a bit overwhelmed with everything. Tomorrow I will have to play tag team with my husband and rush from our younger son’s soccer game to our other son’s soccer game in the next town.
Monday will not only be a full day of school for the kids and work for me but then we have soccer photos for both boys. Right after the photos we have to hustle to soccer practice and then home for homework, showers and bedtime. The next day is Meet the Teachers night at the school and it goes on and on. If your kids just started school and are in sports or other activities you may be feeling as stressed out as me.
I have been thinking about ways to not let the craziness of the new school year and soccer season make me feel like a chicken with my head cut off. I know that with the summer winding down I am not swimming as much. Getting enough exercise is imperative for my well-being. I just started working out with a kettlebell and I love it.
I have the Empower 3-in-1 Kettlebell and it lets me get a total body workout completed in about half the time of a traditional workout with twice the results. Best of all it is fun and I look forward to working out. If you think you would like to try this you can pick one up at Sears.
I have promised myself to spend at least 15 minutes with nature in some way every day. One of my favorite ways is with a cup of coffee on my porch looking at all the birds that grace the bird feeders around my yard. Taking a walk is another great way to get exercise as well as immerse my senses with the sights and sounds of nature.
Taking in the splendor of this time of the year leads me to naturally embrace my passion of photography.
I love taking photos and many people remark how they always see my camera around my neck. They are right, at times I feel that I wear it like a necklace because I never want to miss a great shot. I have been thinking of upgrading to the Canon 70D from my current 60D. It seems Best Buy read my mind because they are running a sale to entice me.
Organization is key for me to stay on top of my busy schedule. I have been busy decluttering and rearranging things so I can be the most efficient. I have found that having a family message center really helps to keep us all on the same page. Waking up just 15 minutes earlier in the morning has made getting the kids ready and off to the bus much more peaceful.
I am a workaholic so making myself unplug from technology and taking a bath really helps to relax me.
Dimming the lights and listening to music on my wireless speaker while soaking helps my mind and body unwind from the day.
Outfitting my bed in some luxurious bedding like the Gwenn Printed Velvet Quilt and Shams from Pottery Barn has made going to bed earlier much more inviting for this night owl. To help me sleep well I use lavender essential oil in an aromatherapy diffuser. Getting a good night of sleep lets me wake up ready to tackle day!
What kind of things do you do to unwind and relax?
