1. See an outdoor movie
The best part of this idea is that it is usually free. Most towns and cities offer outdoor entertainment at night, like music under the starts or outdoor movies on blow up screens! Bring a picnic dinner, a big blanket, and some wine or beer if you’re able. Put the kids in their PJs and bring some comfy blankets or pillows. It’s a great way to spend time with your family, and enjoy local company. Check out your town’s homepage or Facebook page to find out more.
2. Go camping
The best thing about camping is how inexpensive it is. And the best part is that you’ll find awesome sales on camping gear. Check out Cabela’s or Dick’s. If you’re not sure where to start, get a basic tent of an appropriate size for your family and a sleeping bag for each person. When it comes to camping, there is always more to buy, but start small and add to you camping gear a little bit each year. For example, pick up cots for extra comfort, grills and other cookware, coolers, hydration tools, storage, lighting, navigation and much, much more. But don’t let that intimidate you. Start with a weekend trip and take only what you absolutely need. Of course, it’s a bonus to grab a campsite near a beach to keep the kiddos busy and make it feel like a real vacation.
3. Go berry picking
Raspberries and blueberries are now available! And don’t forget to pick up some peaches, which are generally available until September. This is a great activity with the kids that is inexpensive and fun. A few quick tips: bring shoes you can wash and have those pie, salad and shake recipes ready.
4. Go on a boat ride
Really any boat ride will do. Try a sunset cruise, a leisure cruise, ferry jaunt, or anything that puts you on the water in the sunshine. It’s a romantic date idea, or a fun family day. Some cruises offer dinners, themes (like mystery), cocktails, and other fun ways to spend an evening or afternoon. A soft breeze and aroma of salt water will relax you and give you that lasting taste of summer to get you through the cold winter months.
5. Go to a Water Park
Because…who doesn’t love a water park? Summer is about having fun and you need to rise to the occasion. Ditch the quiet day at the bitch and fly down a slide at an 80 degree angle instead! Go with the family, friends, or partner to remind yourself what it’s like to be carefree and uninhibited! You won’t be sorry that you ended your summer with a bang! We have tons of coupons available for parks across the country.
