When I was pregnant with my 8th, (and final!) baby, my husband and I had a hard time deciding if we wanted to know the gender of the baby. After all, it was our last baby, and we had found out with all of the previous babies what was on the way. We wanted this time to be a surprise, but deep down, I knew I would never be able to make it until delivery. After all, I’m a planner, and I can’t plan for things if I don’t know what’s coming! 😉 So, we asked the doctor to put the gender of the baby into an envelope and seal it. We took the envelope, gave it to our eldest daughter and asked her not to give it to us under any circumstances. I knew we would ask. I knew we would do everything in our power to find out what was in that envelope. We begged her to stay strong.
Little did we know that as soon as she got that envelope, she started planning a gender reveal baby shower for us! For several weeks, she went behind our backs and started planning everything for the perfect party. Because of her fabulous surprise to us, we were able to find out in a fun, exciting way that a baby boy was on the way!
I want to share these fun gender reveal baby shower ideas with you and help you pull off the most fabulous gender reveal baby shower ever!
- Cake Reveal – One of the most popular ways to reveal the gender is with the cake. You give your sealed ultrasound envelope to your baker/cake artist, and when you cut into the cake, it will reveal either pink or blue inside. This is a fun, easy, exciting way to get everyone in on the reveal, and the only person who knows the secret is your baker. Don’t have a baker? - Sign In Picture – For my gender reveal baby shower, my daughter bought a large frame with a large mat inside it. Inside the 5″x7″ opening in the mat, she placed two ultrasound pictures of our baby. (Not the one that revealed the gender!) As people arrived to the party, she had them sign in with either a pink marker or a blue marker to show whether they thought the baby would be a boy or a girl. It is still one of my favorite keepsakes, and something I will treasure forever.
- Pink & Blue Decorations – My daughter had “Team Pink” and “Team Blue” decorations (and tons of pink and blue elephants) all over the room where we held the party. Everything fell together perfectly and looked great. Decorations play a big part in keeping the theme, so be sure to have lots of pink and blue for the big day!
- Balloon Reveal – There are several ways you can use a balloon to reveal the gender. Put pink or blue balloons in a large decorated box, then open the box to reveal the gender. For my gender reveal party, my daughter put lots of blue glitter into a black balloon and had me pop it at the party. Confetti might work better, because I think we were cleaning up blue glitter for months. 😉
Gender reveal baby showers are so much fun, and they’re a great way to let everyone feel like they’re part of the big reveal. I’d love to hear if you have any more ideas for ways to throw a great gender reveal party.
