Healthy Habits to Start in the New Year

1. More Sleep

According to a recent Gallup Poll, nearly 40% of Americans do not meet the federal sleep recommendations of 7 – 9 hours per night. Not getting enough sleep leads to chronic inflammation, stress, weight gain, poor focus, fatigue, lack of motivation, and hindered immune function. However, it is not feasible for most people to go to bed 1 – 2 hours earlier each night. Instead, focus on changing your bedtime by just 5 – 10 minutes each month in 2017. By this time next year, you could be getting 1 – 2 hours more sleep nightly!  Making sure your bed is comfortable will help you to sleep better as well.  Fingerhut has an array of fashionable and cozy bedding sets at prices you can’t find anywhere.

2. Better Hydration

The human body is primarily composed of water, which makes proper hydration especially important. When not properly hydrated, fatigue, headache, excessive hunger, thirst, dizziness, confusion, and weakness are all likely. One of the simplest ways to improve your hydration is to carry a reusable water bottle throughout the day, which will remind you to drink frequently. Limit diuretics such as caffeine and alcohol, as well. Replacing just one can of soda with green tea or water per day can make a big difference when trying to make healthy habits.

If happiness is relative, why do we spend so much time focusing on the negative aspects of our lives? Scientists have shown that counting our blessings daily can reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance self-esteem. 4. Make Exercise Fun

All too often, exercise is approached from the perspective of punishment for over-indulgence, or as an activity that “should” be performed. However, when exercise is not enjoyable, we are less likely to garner the many benefits that regular activity provides. Find a form of exercise that you most enjoy, whether that is walking, running, cycling, swimming, attending a group class, or finding a new activity all together. When you enjoy what you are doing, you are more likely to stick with an exercise plan and reach your fitness goals.  24 Hour Fitness has great plans to fit your lifestyle whether you are looking for passive or intensive fitness goals.
