Being a kid is an experience we never forget. Every parent wants their child to have the best childhood possible. Taking steps to promote a healthy lifestyle for the entire family will help your child create healthy habits that will last a lifetime. There are so many ways to help your kids stay on the right track when it comes to good health. The new year is the perfect time to evaluate the health of your children, and start making plans to become healthier as a family. Kids learn by example, and once you set the standard for a healthy lifestyle, your kids are sure to follow suit.
Don’t skip breakfast. It’s true what they say- breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Growing kids need fuel and energy in the morning, and so do adults. Make sure that everyone is waking up in plenty of time to get a good, well-balanced breakfast in before heading off to work or school each morning. Don’t skip breakfast, and don’t let your kids skip it, either, Eating in the car is better than not eating anything at all. Smoothies are great, healthy alternatives to the traditional weekday breakfast. You can find great products to blend smoothies with at Williams Sonoma. If you’re more of an omelette person, check out their offer for 25% off cookware and free shipping!
Plan some meals together. This is especially helpful if you have picky eaters on your hands. Allowing the kids to become involved in helping to plan meals will save you time, and a potential headache at dinner time. You can use online meal planning resources, print out free printable templates, or just go the old-fashioned route and plan a weekly menu with pen and paper. Make it fun by allowing the kids to plan one entire meal. Tell them the elements that have to be included, like a protein, whole grains, vegetable, etc, and then let them take the reins. You may be pleasantly surprised by what they come up with.
Exercise together. Create time and space for the whole family to exercise together. Make plans to take walks around the neighborhood a few times a week. If you have a dog, talk the dog with you on a family walk. Make plans to go to the park on the weekend, or maybe even play a weekly game of tennis or basketball. If it’s too cold to exercise outside, set up an indoor yoga studio in a corner of your living room. There are fun yoga workouts of kids and family online, and bets of all- they’re totally free!
You might think that your kids aren’t paying any attention to the way you live, but they are. Kids are always watching, and they look to parents and older siblings to set the examples they should be living by. Start creating healthy habits for yourself and your entire family. Make fitness fun so that everyone will want to participate, and receive the wonderful benefits that come from living a healthy lifestyle.
