How to Host a Galentine’s Day Brunch

Galentines-Day-in-Pittsburgh

Fans of the hit TV show Parks and Rec are probably familiar of a special holiday, made popular by the show’s leading character, Leslie Knope. Galentine’s Day takes place the day before Valentine’s Day, and it’s a day to celebrate all of the amazing women in your life. Call it a girls’ day or get-together, it’s a ladies only event, filled with fun, stories, gifts, and of course, food. If you’ve never been to such an event, or you’ve never even heard of it before, but you’d like to try hosting one yourself, we’ve got some great tips for you.

For starters, plan out the event date. Normally, you would want to host the event on February the 13th, but if you can’t do that, pick a date that’s close to Valentine’s Day. Try to choose an alternative date that you think would work best with others’ schedules. Once you have a date nailed down, choose and send out invitations. You can go the paperless route and send out e-vites via Punchbowl or another free online invite service. You could also go the traditional route, and send out paper invitations in the mail. If you mail out invitations, make them themed to fit a girls day, rather than sticking with Valentine’s Day.

Mimosas

Plan your menu. A brunch can be as causual or as upscale as you want it to be. Sit down and look at your budget, and then go from there. You could keep the event very simple with quiches, quick salads, fresh fruit, and add a mimosa bar. Have some desserts that everyone can enjoy, or take home with them. You’ll need plenty of champagne and orange juice on hand to make your mimosa bar. Stock up on champagne at Wine.com. If you spend $250.00, you can get $20.00 off your order. Add fresh fruits to the mimosa bar, so everyone can make their own special Galentine’s Day cocktails. It’s also a good idea to have sparkling juice available for anyone who might not be able to drink the champagne.

Glam it up with fun decorations. You can certainly add some Valentine’s Day decor to the mix. A Valentine’s collage of all of your favorite ladies would make an awesome centerpiece on a table. You’ll want to send your friends home with a special Galentine’s Day gift bag, filled with all sorts of goodies. Gift ideas like spa essentials, wine socks, a notepad and pen for journaling, and inspirational notes are great ideas. Throw few individually wrapped squeares of dark chocolate and a code for a free Red Box movie, and you’re all set. You can make your gift tag stickers at Tiny Prints, and receive a Bloom 1, set of 24 for just $8.00!

Galentine’s Day may seem like a silly idea, but we live in a world that moves so quickly, and we often forget to celebrate the people we hold near and dear to our hearts. If you have some wonderful women in your life, why not take the time out of your schedule to plan a fun get together. You can laugh, talk, share stories, and encourage one another, ultimately just enjoying one of the very best gifts that there is: friendship. Who knows… you might be the first one in your tribe of friends to start a new tradition.
