Sony has come out with its new product line of camcorders, the first one being NEX-VG900. Sony has announced it as the world’s first consumer 35mm full-frame interchangeable lens camcorder.
Sony has used the full frame CMOS x 1sensor for the camcorder which is 1.7 inches in size and has 23.3 megapixels sensor which is quite large as compared to the other handycams in the segment. It works with 1920 × 1080 Full HD recording and can put up 4k of video recording. If you want to record all the moments of your life, then you are going to love this. The Focal range of Sony NEX-VG900 is 18.0-200.0mm and to make the most of the V900’s Full Frame imager, one must use the A-mount lenses which come with the A-mount lens adapter.
Sony has incorporated the Anti-dust technology in their camcorder sensor which keeps the sensor clean. The static-free covering on the sensor helps in repelling dust. The vibration of the camcorder also helps in dislodging dust. This is quite effective especially during the changing of lenses during the video shootings and allows the user to use the camcorder in almost all weathers.
There is full HD recording with a frame rate of 60p, 60i, or 24p. The maximum bitrate is 28mbps for recording which is done while using the record mode of 1080/60p. The camcorder has the SD card slot which can be fitted with the SD card but there is no internal memory on the NEX-VG900. The media-card slot accepts Memory Stick Pro Duo,Memory Stick Duo, SD/SDHC/SDXC and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo media.
The autofocus mechanism on the camcorder is quite efficient in terms of accuracy. The camcorder also comes with the microphone(Sony’s Quad Capsule Spatial Array) which records 5.1 surround sound by incorporating four omnidirectional microphones. One setback of the camcorder is the zoom option which is only adjustable on the lens. Apart from the automated focus, one can also adjust the focus manually. But the autofocus is one of the best features as it is extremely precise, quick and quiet.
The audio features remain the same as other products with a built-in microphone as well as a 3.5mm jack for device. For connectivity purposes, there are two-port clusters built in the camcorder. One is for the USB ports and HDMI while the other port cluster is for the headphone jack,DC-input and Sony’s Multi-AV port. So connectivity is not a problem.
The camcorder also has some advanced controls with expanded focus for precise manual control and exposure adjustments. The picture effects remain the same as seen in other handycams like partial contrast, high contrast, monochrome, partial color etc.
All in all, the camcorder works as an amazing video recorder as well as a camera. It can capture 24-megapixel stills in the RAW or JPEG format. Apart from this, its impressive technology and design will give the buyers a worth for their money. It has a price tag of $3299 which is quite competitive for other handycams with interchangeable lenses.
