Making the Most of the End of the School Year

Once Easter is over and spring break has passed on by, it can seem like the end of the school year is an eternity away. Many schools have close to two months of school left after spring break, and when the end of the year is in sight, it can be hard to focus on much of anything else. With exams and end of the year tests coming up, the last few weeks of school can be very stressful for the students, their parents, and teachers.  Keep in mind that many classes will still be learning new material up to the very end of the year, and it’s important to help keep your kids focused on learning as they near the finish line for the year.

If you have young children, make a fun countdown to the last day of school at home. You can do this easily by making a paper link chain. Loop them together, and hang the paper chain in a place where the whole family will be able to see it, like in the kitchen. Each day, remove one of the paper links, so your family can see how many school days are left. You can even make fun posters as a family, and count down to a special trip or vacation that you have planned for the summer months. Communicating with your child’s teacher can be very helpful and beneficial to the student and teacher toward the end of the year. Ask the teacher if there is anything that you can do for him or her, or work with the teacher to plan something special for the students. If an older child has review periods coming up, set it up with the teacher to send in muffins and juice for the entire class. An incentive for the students often helps keep them focused, and in better spirits.

Keep the kids active. When the kids get home from school, keep them engaged. Have special projects ready for them to work on. You could ask them to help you make a dessert to go along with dinner or help with the meal prep. Giving kids some good old fashioned chores is a great way to teach them responsibility and to keep them out of trouble. For kids who are older and can spend time outdoors on their own, encourage them to engage in an activity of sport. Staying busy after school will help keep their mind off of the days that are ahead. For small children, just going outside to play after school ca be a wonderful thing. They don’t get a large amount of time to play during the school day, so being able to get out and get some energy out will be good for them. It’ll also help them to sleep better at night, which will lead to them being more productive the next day.

If you haven’t yet planned a summer vacation, now is a good time to book your trip. If you’re wanting to go somewhere exotic, consider going to a Sandals Resort, which is all-inclusive. It can really save you a lot of money in the grand scheme of things and will save you from having to plan every detail of your trip, too. Save an additional $25.00 when you book your vacation online. Once you have some dates marked on the calendar for your family vacation, the kids will have something to look forward and will enjoy getting up in the mornings and heading off to school.
