Facial moisturizers should do the obvious, and that is to add moisture to the skin. Moisturized skin looks radiant and youthful. Moisturizer can also have added bonuses: Antioxidants and SPF are good for your skin and should be a priority when looking for a proper moisturizer. What’s even better is that products are natural, organic and free of toxic chemicals. As consumers become savvier and wiser, we know that chemicals are a big no-no. Chemicals include dyes, fragrance and paraben.
I have tried many different brands of moisturizers currently on the market, in my quest for skin that not only looks more youthful, but is healthier as well. Here are some products that are getting quite a bit of buzz. Do they live up to the hype? You may be surprised at the results.
1. Juice Beauty Green Apple SPF 15 Moisturizer
$38.00 at Ulta.com, you can enjoy “ Free shipping on all orders over $25” with Ulta coupons.
Pros: Organic, pleasant smell, no chemicals, no animal testing, contains fruits and fruit juices as main ingredients, very high in antioxidants
Cons: Slightly expensive, citrus ingredients may irritate sensitive skin, not available at drug stores, does not absorb very well into skin
I was immediately attracted to Juice Beauty because of the name. Juice beauty’s website promises a skin care line that is chock full of antioxidants. Instead of water as a first ingredient, Juice Beauty boasts that their first ingredient is fruit juice (apple juice and lemon juice are the first two ingredients). Juice beauty smells like a bouquet of fresh lemons. I noticed that it does not absorb as well as other moisturizers but other than that, it worked pretty well on my normal to oily skin. It leaves skin moisturized all day without feeling or looking greasy. Due to the high citric acid, I have concerns that this may not be suited for sensitive skin as it may cause irritation.
Final verdict: Juice Beauty Green Apple is ideal for normal to oily skin. It probably not a very good moisturizer for mature skin, as it does not absorb easily into skin. On the flip side, the extremely high antioxidant will help slow the aging process and will improve elasticity.
2. Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Day Lotion
$18.00 at Burtbees.com, you can enjoy “ Free shipping on all orders over $25” with latest Burtbees coupon code.
Pros: Reasonably priced, organic, absorbs well into skin, no animal testing
Cons: Contains alcohol and fragrance.
This reasonably priced moisturizer claims to be 99.9 percent natural, and while it does contain ingredients that are good for the skin, such as clary sage, it does contain alcohol, which could be drying. Fragrance is also a turn off to some who have allergies or sensitive skin. On the plus side, this is a great product for dry and mature skin. It’s thick and really sinks into the skin. Skin feels soft and supple without becoming oily or greasy.
Final verdict: Minus a few ingredients that could cause irritation, this is a product that really does do what it’s supposed to do. Burt’s Bees is better suited for those who have normal, dry or mature skin. It’s also very good for chapped skin and for people who live in cold or dry climates.
3. Say Yes to Carrots SPF 15 Facial Moisturizer
$14.99 at Target.com, you can enjoy “Free shipping when you spend $50” with Target coupons.
Pros: Organic, reasonably priced, great for all skin types,no animal testing, goes on smoothly
Cons: Contains fragrance and alcohol
I was extremely hesitant to try this. Upon seeing this line at my local Target, my instant reaction was that it was just another gimmick… Carrots, sure… but then I tried it. The ingredients sounded very good: shea butter, carrots,Dead Sea water, melon and aloe. SayYes to Carrots is a creamy moisturizerthat goes on smoothly and absorbs easily into the skin. Say Yes to Carrots keeps your skin moisturized all day and even leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized after washing it off your skin.
Final verdict: Highly recommended and lives up to its promise. It’s great for all skin types but if you’re turned off by fragrance and alcohol, this may not be for you.
4. Origins A Perfect World SPF 25 Moisturizer
$39.50 at Origins.com. You can enjoy “Free standard shipping on orders over $50 and Free 2nd day shipping on orders over $100 at Origins.”
Pros: Great for all skin types, no fragrance, oil free, very high in antioxidants, great for extremely dry skin, no animal testing
Cons: On the expensive side, only available at select stores
Origins is a brand that I’ve come to trust and this is a truly wonderful moisturizer with an SPF of 25, it offers ideal sun protection. It is best suited for dry and combination skin. A Perfect World absorbs easily into skin and stays moisturized all day. Your skin will feel supple and non-greasy throughout the day. Antioxidants like white tea and Maritime pine are also appealing and will help minimize fine lines and slow the aging process.
Final verdict: A superb moisturizer for dry and combination skin types. It contains a good amount of antioxidants and a decent amount of sun protection. It’s definitely worth the money.
