The Best Things to Buy in January

January is the month for New Year’s resolutions. It’s also the best time of year to buy products that will help you stick to your goals. What are the best bargains this month? To find out read the list below.

1. Fitness Equipment & Apparel

A lot of folks will jump on the get-in-shape bandwagon this January as they resolve to lose weight and get fit this year. This month you will find deep discounts on fitness apparel from stores like Macy’s and JCPenney and huge markdowns on fitness equipment including stationary bikes, elliptical machines and treadmills from sporting goods stores. If you plan to start a new fitness routine January is the time to purchase new equipment. If you put off purchasing a fitness tracker now might be a great time to buy one. You will most likely find bargains on the Apple Watch Sport and the latest Fitbit models.

2. Gym Memberships

Some people prefer to work out at home and others prefer to use the state-of-the-art equipment available at local gyms. January is a great time to search out deals on gym memberships in your area. This time of year many gyms will waive enrollment fees, provide discounted rates, offer free months of membership and throw in extras like personal training sessions or unlimited exercise classes. If you want to lose weight or simply get stronger this year check out the promotions in your area.

3. Storage and Organization

While some want to lose weight and feel better in their bodies others want to feel better living in their homes. If you’ve resolved to keep a tidier, less messy, more organized home then keep an eye out for sales on storage bins and other organizational items, which will help you maintain order in an otherwise chaotic home. The Christmas clearance section of big box stores like Walmart often have large, plastic storage bins on sale. While these are usually intended for storing Christmas items, (they are most likely green or red), there is no reason you can’t use them for all of your other organizational purposes. Right now Target is hosting a HUGE storage sale. Enter promo code STORAGE at checkout and you will save an extra $5 off your $25 purchase of storage and organization materials.

4. Christmas Clearances

Christmas sales will begin on December 26th, but they will continue throughout the first week or two of January. While most of us think about snatching up deeply discounted Christmas ornaments, decorations and wrapping paper you can also find great deals on other items that were packaged with images of penguins and Santa Claus. Keep an eye out for sales on candy, coffee, candles, gift sets and even hand soaps. Stores will reduce prices rapidly on any items that remind consumers of the holidays. Most stores will mark these items down to 50% just after Christmas and then continue to mark them down to 80% or even 90% in early January.

5. Winter Clothes

Believe it or not stores will begin discounting winter clothing in January. While it seems like the temperature just got cold enough to wear any of it, stores will soon move this merchandise out to make way for spring fashions. Prices drop particularly fast on winter coats at this time of year, but you’ll need to keep an eye out for sales because the selection also dwindles quite quickly. This is a great time to purchase coats, jackets, scarves and hats for next winter. If you have children this is a great way to save on the winter gear they’ll need in a year.
